Abendmusik und Nachtmusik

Jackson has played a vital role in the renewal of interest in chamber music across Central Louisiana. In May 2014, Jackson was one of the co-founders of the chamber music series Abendmusik Alexandria alongside cellist Paul Christopher, guitarist John De Chiaro, and arts patron Tom Harmeyer. For the next two years until April 2016, Jackson remained Series Director of Abendmusik, bringing to Alexandria fifteen magnificent concerts featuring an array of Louisiana's most talented classical musicians. In its two year run, Abendmusik Alexandria's casual jazz club setting enchanted musicians and audiences alike, giving Central Louisiana a new appreciation for chamber music and reenergizing all aspects of classical music presented locally.

In addition to his responsibilities as Series Director of Abendmusik Alexandria, Jackson also provided informative program notes for every concert; these notes are now archived at the Program Notes page. As Jackson heads to graduate school in fall 2016, chamber music will remain in good hands in Central Louisiana: the same team that established Abendmusik Alexandria has now created the annual Sugarmill Music Festival as well as a new series, Nachtmusik von BrainSurge. Jackson will continue to lend his invaluable program notes to these endeavors and also act as creative consultant.

From the beginning, Jackson and his colleagues have sought to present chamber music, old and new. Many masterpieces of the past were featured on Abendmusik programs, but so were contemporary works, including the music of five Louisiana composers; two of these were world premieres. It remains the mission of the Sugarmill Music Festival and Nachtmusik von BrainSurge to actively support local composers and musicians.
